In 2022, a team of scientists managed to regrow a young frog’s limb using drugs administered by a wearable bioreactor, a discovery that hinted at the possibility that other animals may possess dormant regenerative capabilities that could be activated. While reading about it, I learned that regrowth can occur under an anarchic arrangement of cells, so that the regenerated tissues don’t replicate the original structure; fingers can grow in the wrong positions, nerves do not perform their intended functions, skin does not exhibit its usual rough texture. The malfunction allows for a different type of system to exist in deviance; one can take its principles (to mutate, replicate, and survive) and see them reflected in other structures that are flourishing in a scale and complexity unprecedented before the 21rst century. Such systems, like blockchain technology and peer-2-peer network, allow for censorship resistance through decentralization, which allows for the collaboration of several parties regardless of their geographical locations.
